Duvo at Daytona 500
I’ve always complained about having to go to Florida for work. Florida and its residents have always been a meme for as long as I could remember. I average one trip to Florida a year. I’ve now been to Florida over a dozen times (more than any other state) since beginning my career as a Cinematographer. But this time it was different.
We were faced with massive rain for the first two days and it prevented us from being able to do anything. The chances of Daytona 500 happening seemed slim. I was restless, not knowing what to do with my time or self.
This trip could’ve gone many way, but I decided to do the only thing I could do, so I immersed myself in the culture of NASCAR since I was surrounded by fans at the hotel.
The things you learn, the people you meet along the way and the stories they shared made this trip one to remember. I’m not saying I’m now a hardcore NASCAR fan but I sure do have a new found respect for its devoted fans. These encounters reenergized me and gave me a different perspective when I finally stepped foot on the track. The race was eventually rescheduled and we finally got to film. Boy was it a blast.
Shout out to my good friends at Fujifilm and my producer Pamela for “forecasting” all the changes and making it a smooth shoot. Big thanks to the NASCAR production team and to my Homie Zach behind camera for showing me such unlimited access.
Congratulations to everyone I met. You’ve now made me “enjoy” Florida. 😂😂😂
Looking forward to my next trip back.
